The empirical research project compares ethnic membership formations among Portuguese and Dutch migrants as well as East Frisians. Above all, it explores dimensions of tradition-making as a form of production of historicity and processes of their valuation as cultural heritage. The data collection stems from qualitative interviews, participatory observations and scientific as well as other media sources. This allows for an extensive and comparative situational analysis, which involves the constructions and negotiations at the interface between cultural heritage and ethno-heterogenesis.
